What is EnergyClass
EnergyClass is a free web tool that estimates the indicative energy class of a residential property in seconds. It is designed for anyone who wants to get a sense of a property's energy profile — before buying, renting or planning a renovation — without waiting for the time and cost of a formal certification.
Why it exists
Energy class is one of the main factors influencing the value and running costs of a property, yet obtaining it requires a site visit by a qualified professional and complex documentation. We built EnergyClass to lower this information barrier: with a few easily available data points (type, age, floor area, systems) it is possible to get a reasonably reliable indication to guide decisions, while being clear that this is a rough estimate, not a certificate.
Data sources and method
The calculation engine is based on:
- DPR 412/93 and subsequent UNI standards — Italian climate zones, degree days per municipality, typical U-values by construction period.
- Eurostat Heating Degree Days — climate data for European countries outside Italy.
- Official national class bands — DM 26/06/2015 (Italy), Arrêté du 31 mars 2021 (France, reformed DPE), GEG 2020 (Germany), RD 235/2013 (Spain) and equivalent regulations for other EU countries.
- Primary energy conversion factors — in line with EN ISO 52000-1 and national implementing decrees.

Transparency and contact
EnergyClass is an independent project. We are not affiliated with any real-estate agency, building professional or certification body. Data entered by users is stored anonymously and used exclusively for the aggregate statistics visible in the "Explore" section. We do not sell data to third parties.
