Energy class in Italy (APE)
Official certificate: APE
Italy uses the APE certificate to classify the energy performance of buildings.
The scale is relative: thresholds are expressed as a ratio to a reference building.
Official APE scale
| Class | Max EP ratio |
|---|---|
| A4 | ≤ 0.40 |
| A3 | ≤ 0.60 |
| A2 | ≤ 0.80 |
| A1 | ≤ 1.00 |
| B | ≤ 1.20 |
| C | ≤ 1.50 |
| D | ≤ 2.00 |
| E | ≤ 2.60 |
| F | ≤ 3.50 |
| G | ∞ |
How the estimate works in Italy
In Italy, the class is based on the ratio between the estimated energy consumption and that of a standard reference building. This method is called relative or ratio-based.
